Kandersteg International Scout Centre is the only world centre of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). The Centre began in 1923 with Lord Robert Baden-Powell, who, after the first World Scout Jamboree had a dream about a place where all Scouts from all over the world could meet. His dream came true and now YOU have the opportunity to visit Kandersteg International Scout Centre and live YOUR Dream!
The Centre is open to Scouts all year round, as well as to non-Scouts for most of the year
More than 10'000 young people from over 40 different countries visit the Centre each year, ensuring a unique international Atmosphere. Now it could be your turn to come and take part in the Permanent Mini Jamboree!

Joning Kandersteg Staff
Kandersteg International Scout Centre has been a meeting place for Scouts from all over the world since 1923. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) is the biggest youth organisation in the world. Here in Kandersteg, the Centre is run by young Scouts and Guides for other young people – the average age of our staff is about 23.
Every year, over 60 Scouts and Guides come as volunteers to the Alps to realise their Dream and to make the Dream happen for all our guests. It is because of these young people who come here as volunteers that Baden-Powell’s dream is alive today.
How is the Centre organised? Firstly, of course, there has to be somebody in charge! There is a full time Director, who is employed by WOSM to run the Centre and who also spends part of her time working on projects as a member of the European Scout Region staff.
Then we have the Short Term staff, Scouts and Guides who come to work in Kandersteg for 3 months. A new team of Short Term staff arrives every December, March, June and September, does lots of different work and has a lot of fun. In the summer, there are about 27 Short Term staff, in the other seasons, about 6. Eventually though, they have to leave and a new group of Short Term staff arrives. ... a member of the Long Term staff. These people nearly all started by working here as Short Term staff and chose to return to work at the Centre for a longer time. They are very important as they provide the link between the Short Term staff teams. Some work here for 4 months in the summer, some for 9 months and some for several years, all doing specific jobs at the Centre. In the summer, there are about 17 Long Term staff, in the other seasons, about 10.
Carajás and Kandersteg
The Carajás Scouts visited Kandersteg during the World Jamboree held in Holland in 1995.
